CALIFORNIA GUITAR TRIO — With a whirlwind of instrumental styles fusing classical, rock, blues, jazz, world music, progressive, as well as the quintessential California surf music, the California Guitar Trio's stunning virtuosity and sly sense of humor have earned them an enthusiastic following and wide notoriety in the progressive, acoustic and classical music scenes.

CGT was featured on the television coverage of the 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004 Olympics, and also on CBS, NBC, CNN, and ESPN programs. CGT music was sent into outer space as wake up music for the crew aboard NASA's Space Shuttle Endeavor. Since their inception in 1991, the Trio has released 12 CDs: six featuring original works, a variety of classics such as Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue” and Beethoven's 5th Symphony, and a Christmas CD with familiar and not-so familiar Christmas music which continues to receive rave reviews.

BRASIL GUITAR DUOClassical Guitar Magazine exclaims: “The maturity of musicianship and technical virtuosity displayed…is simply outstanding” in describing the Brasil Guitar Duo, winner of the 2006 Concert Artists Guild International Competition.
The Duo makes frequent appearances in conjunction with CAG’s highly regarded New Music/New Places initiative, giving concerts in diverse non-traditional spaces. Upcoming dates include BAMcafé in Brooklyn, the Art and Community Center in Rome, New York and a return to Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs. And, of course, Mick's.
The Brasil Guitar Duo has developed a broad repertoire of classical guitar duos (Bach, Sor, Scarlatti) and in recent years has broadened its aesthetic to encompass the traditional music of its native land: samba, maxixe, choro and baião.
Mick would like to add that after hearing one track, he downloaded everything he could get his hands on.

MATT BAUER — While the murder ballad is a time-honored tradition in folk music, Matt Bauer's latest effort, The Island Moved in the Storm, takes it to a higher level in the form of a suite. Incorporating imagery from his Kentucky roots, Bauer creates a gorgeous musical travelogue, both spare and fully orchestrated, based on a murder victim known for years only as "Tent Girl." Matt Bauer whispers the details in a beautiful feathery rasp, inviting you join him as an eyewitness to the secrets of this sad story.
Matt's songs are the perfect accompaniment to the impending autumn; eerily desolate and beautiful at the same time.” —Insound

Opening tonight's show: TAYLOR BURKUM — This up-and-coming acoustic artist just released his debut EP entitled, Not Even A Bullet to My Chest. His breathy voice has tones of folk-rock with an added pinch of Western swing, and he tends to toss some comedic moments in between songs. For fans of The Thrills, Ben Kweller or Dave Grohl.

Saturday October 11th, 9pm, $5

LEESHA HARVEY — Who knew that a guitar and a web cam could lead to a career change? Leesha Harvey played for years in a variety of venues, but she never considered it more than a hobby until she started posting some of her songs on YouTube. The response was so overwhelming that Leesha recorded a CD and started gigging around. She was featured on the front page of YouTube in April 2008, and her music videos have received over 400,000 views in the past year. With a sound reminiscent of Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, and Natalie Merchant, her thoughtful lyrics show a surprising depth of insight.

GREG PLACE — who recently wowed an open-mic audience to silence with his intimate but intense performance. An Omaha native, Greg first tread the artist's boards as a theatre practitioner, graduating in 2005 with a degree in Performance. Songs have the ability to fragment life into shards; Greg is impassioned by that search through the shards to seek and deliver truth in sound.
